A New Chapter for Third Shift Crafts: Wood, Flame & Vine

When I first launched Third Shift Crafts, my heart was in woodworking. It wasn’t just about saws, sanders, or projects — it was about proving that creativity belongs to everyone, and especially encouraging women to pick up tools, trust their instincts, and create something tangible with their own hands.
The sound of a saw, the smell of fresh-cut wood, and the satisfaction of sanding a piece smooth until it feels alive — those were the things that grounded me. And sharing that journey became the foundation of this brand.
But as I built and grew, something became clearer: crafting doesn’t stop at the workshop door.
It flows into every corner of our homes and lives. It shows up in the meals we share outside on a warm summer evening. It lingers in the patience of a slow ferment turning into a glass of wine that’s savored with friends. Creativity isn’t confined to wood and nails — it lives in fire, in flavor, in community.
That realization is what sparked this new chapter.
Why We’re Expanding Beyond Wood
At its core, Third Shift Crafts has always been about more than just products, projects, or even sawdust. It’s about what happens when you create something with your own hands — the confidence, the joy, and the connection it sparks.
Over time, I noticed that woodworking, while central to my story, wasn’t the only space where that magic lived.
Outdoor cooking felt like a natural extension of crafting. There’s a rhythm to grilling, smoking, or cooking on a griddle that mirrors woodworking — patience, attention, creativity, and the satisfaction of feeding people something you’ve made yourself.
Wine making became another unexpected but beautiful connection. It’s slower, more delicate, but just as rewarding. Like woodworking, it’s about process as much as outcome. And like cooking, it’s about sharing the end result.
Each of these crafts — wood, flame, and vine — invite us to slow down, build intentionally, and celebrate the everyday.
So Third Shift Crafts is no longer just a woodworking brand. It’s now a lifestyle brand, built around three creative pillars that feel deeply connected:
Woodworking: Encouragement, projects, and inspiration to help you create with confidence.
Cooking Outdoors: Recipes, tips, and tools for meals made over fire and enjoyed under the sky.
Wine Making: Approachable guides and creative recipes to make wine worth sipping and sharing.
This isn’t a departure. It’s growth. The sawdust is still here — it’s just joined by smoke and the swirl of a glass.
What Stays the Same
If you’ve been here from the beginning, you might be wondering: But what about woodworking?
Let me reassure you — woodworking remains at the heart of Third Shift Crafts.
The rebrand doesn’t erase where we started. Instead, it adds new dimensions. You’ll still find:
Encouragement for women and beginners in woodworking
DIY project guides
Stories about learning, growing, and building with your own two hands
Products and apparel that celebrate makers
The difference now is that those projects might connect more intentionally to cooking and wine. A DIY outdoor prep table isn’t just a build — it’s also part of a backyard meal. A rustic wine rack isn’t just for show — it’s designed to hold bottles you may have crafted yourself.
Wood remains the foundation, but now it’s part of a bigger story.
What’s New: A Lifestyle of Creativity
The most exciting part of this rebrand is what’s new.
🔨 Woodworking
This pillar continues much as it always has, with beginner-friendly projects, encouragement, and functional builds. Expect more crossover ideas, like woodworking projects that directly serve your cooking and wine making (think smoker stands, prep tables, and wine storage).
🔥 Cooking Outdoors
We’re expanding into recipes, tips, and gear for grills, griddles, and smokers. Whether you’re flipping burgers, smoking ribs, or experimenting with flatbread on a hot griddle, you’ll find approachable ways to make food that feels special. And most importantly — food that brings people together.
🍷 Wine Making
The newest addition, and perhaps the most surprising for some. But wine making fits beautifully into our ethos: it’s patient, intentional, and rewarding. From beginner kits to seasonal fruit wines, this space will guide you through the basics and inspire you to experiment. And of course, we’ll talk pairings — because what’s an outdoor meal without the right glass beside it?
Together, these three pillars — wood, flame, and vine — create a lifestyle of crafting, gathering, and savoring.
Why This Matters
This rebrand isn’t just about content categories. It’s about the way we live.
It’s about connection. Woodworking, cooking, and wine all bring people together. A table you’ve built. A meal you’ve grilled. A bottle you’ve shared. They’re all touch points for community.
It’s about empowerment. Just like woodworking gave me confidence, so does mastering a grill or bottling my own wine. Each craft proves we’re capable of more than we think.
It’s about slowing down. In a world that’s always rushing, these crafts require patience and presence. They’re grounding, restorative, and deeply human.
By expanding Third Shift Crafts, I want to create a brand that reflects the full richness of creativity — one that goes beyond the shop and into everyday life.
What You Can Expect
With this rebrand, here’s what’s coming your way:
Blog Posts: Regular content across all three pillars — woodworking projects, outdoor recipes, and wine making guides.
Guides & Resources: Free downloads to help you get started (think woodworking starter plans, recipe collections, and wine making basics).
Community Inspiration: Stories, encouragement, and spotlights that remind you creativity isn’t about perfection — it’s about showing up and trying.
Shop Updates: Our products will expand over time, reflecting the new lifestyle focus with woodworking-inspired pieces, cooking resources, and wine-making logs.
A Personal Note
Rebranding isn’t a small decision. It means rethinking what this space is and who it’s for. But in many ways, this shift feels like coming home.
Because at the end of the day, Third Shift Crafts has always been about living creatively.
It started with sawdust. Now it includes smoke and wine, too. But the heartbeat is the same: encouraging you to build, create, and savor life in ways that feel handmade and deeply rooted in home.
If you’ve been here since the early woodworking days, thank you for walking alongside me. And if you’re new, welcome — I can’t wait to share this lifestyle with you.
