There’s something special about celebrating Independence Day with handmade decor that reflects your style, your values, and your creativity.
At Third Shift Crafts, we believe every piece you build is a piece of your story. And when that story includes love for country, freedom, and community - you’ve got something truly powerful.
So let’s get festive! Whether you’re hosting a backyard BBQ or just adding red, white, and blue flair to your home porch, here are some fun and meaningful DIY ideas to help you celebrate.
In honor of Independence Day tomorrow, here’s 5 Patriotic Woodworking Projects to Try This Weekend
Wooden American Flag Art
Build your own rustic flag using scrap wood, stain, and a star stencil. Distress it for a vintage look, or keep it bold and bright!
Beginner-friendly. Great for indoor or outdoor display.
2. Star-Shaped Table Centerpiece
Cut stars from thin plywood and attach them to a simple base for a festive centerpiece. Add candles or mason jars for a farmhouse vibe.
Try layering different wood tones for a 3D effect.
3. Fourth of July Porch Sign
Paint a vertical sign that says “USA,” “Land of the Free,” or “America” on a reclaimed board. Add ribbon, stars, or burlap for extra texture.
Great weekend project - and easy to store for next year!
4. Freedom Tray
Serve up lemonade (or something stronger!) on a wooden tray with hand painted stars and stripes. Seal it with food-safe topcoat for long-term use.
Easy to clean, and always a conversation starter!
5. DIY Firecracker Blocks
Cut soap 2x4’s into various heights, paint them like firecrackers, and top with twine for wicks. Display on mantels or tabletops for a fun pop of color.
A fun project to do with kids too!

From one matter to another: keep crafting with pride, joy, and purpose.
