Project Spotlight: Reader Builds That Stopped Us in Our Tracks

One of my favorite things about this community is that you all actually build stuff. Not just plan it, not just pin it — you actually go out to the shop and make things. This post is all about celebrating that.

Every few weeks I collect builds from the Third Shift community — things you've shared in the comments, tagged us in, or sent over directly — and I put together a roundup. This one has some serious standouts.

Why Community Builds Matter

When I started Third Shift Crafts, I thought the blog would mostly be me teaching. What I didn't anticipate was how much I'd learn from the people reading it. Your builds push me. They show me techniques I haven't tried, applications I hadn't considered, and creative directions I never would have taken on my own.

This community makes everyone in it a better maker. That's not a small thing.

Builds That Caught Our Eye

A few themes that showed up in the latest round of submissions: outdoor furniture is clearly having a moment. Multiple readers submitted bar carts, serving tables, and Adirondack chairs — all beautifully executed. There's also a strong cutting board wave happening, with some serious grain pattern work going on.

What I love most about these submissions is the variety of skill levels. We've got first-time builders next to folks who have been at this for decades, and honestly the passion comes through equally in both.

How to Submit Your Build

If you want your work featured in a future spotlight, here's all you need to do: drop a photo and a brief description in the comments on any post, or tag us on social media. Tell me what you built, what materials you used, and any lessons learned. That's it.

No project is too simple or too ambitious. We've featured $5 scrap wood projects and multi-week furniture builds — what matters is that you made it.

Keep Building

The best thing about this community is that it keeps growing. Every new maker who shows up brings fresh energy and new ideas. If you've been lurking and haven't shared yet — this is your invitation. We want to see what you're working on.

Drop your latest build in the comments right now. Let's see what the Third Shift community has been up to.
